Taytay Food Trip

Just beside Cainta, my hometown, is Taytay in Rizal. Aside from being the 2nd most populated municipality in terms of residents, it is known as the Woodworks and Garments Capital of the Philippines. A lot of businesses are booming too, food ventures in particular (and the same progress are happening in Cainta and Antipolo area). If you reside in the East of the Metro, you know this (hello, traffic!).

So the Foodie in me strikes again…

During those too lazy to cook, too lazy to brave traffic moments or lengthy drives, discovering new places to eat at or chill nearby is very practical. There are a lot of commercial restaurants and cafes to go to but if you are the type who wants to always explore, or is just too moody, or craves for food that are worth it, these 6 suggested places are for you to try (in no particular order):

The Bang Cafe and Restaurant

It was June of 2015 when I discovered Bang with a friend after shopping materials for an event in the town proper of Taytay. Having studied in Taytay in high school, “Bang” is an expression I would usually hear from colleagues and teachers. “Bang tagal naman”, “Bang init dito”, etc. Uniquely Taytay it is. Located just a few meters away St. John the Baptist church, its busy location might look inapt if you’re after relaxation but the interior is quite cozy and eating becomes encouraging and interesting. Why? Because this cafe’s primary set-up is to help several organizations and communities like Out-of-school Youth, Smile Train, etc.  Thus their tagline “The Delicious Way of Helping”.

They serve assortment food that can sure fit cravings whether for light eaters or those with heavy appetites. From pancakes, to rice meals, to pastas, sandwiches, desserts, cold and hot drinks. The prices are budget-friendly! I personally loved their Hot-choco drink and Crispy Pork Belly rice meal.

The Bang Cafe is now in its new location, a bit smaller space and less designed interior but still worth a try or coming back to.

14 Four Cafe

If you’re after ambiance, 14 Four is the place to be! How artsy and lovely this place is, perfect for dates, barkada catch-up nights, family intimate dinners, private events and even photo shoots (Too bad, I only have limited photos taken that time)! You may choose whether to stay inside the air-conditioned cafe or enjoy the cool breeze at the outdoor seating area.

The food, to me, are a bit pricey but it’s not bad considering their presentation. Looking forward to try their sandwiches and pastas when I get back.

Canterberry Bar and Resto

Night out with friends? After school bonding? After badminton meal (coz it’s just across a badminton court)? Canterberry is the place to be. Orders are meant to be shared, but there are meals for single consumption too. The service is fast and viands are affordable. Their Buttered Chicken and Nachos are the bomb! (No photos of the food, sorry! Next time!)
Here’s a videoke night out photo with barkada. Yes, you can actually rent out a function room, with ready videoke for a consumable fee good for 3-4 hours. Food and drinks were overflowing that night!

Isaw Haus

Suited for all occasions- an open-air dining place, also best for delivery and take-out (for me) to avoid the long waiting line and time because a lot of people would usually dine-in for the love of their anything grilled and tasty pancit especially on weekends! Isaw Haus has been around for years! If my memory serves me right, the area started as a car wash with take-out counter for grilled meat, now it has transformed into a dine-in space may it be for families or group of friends who wants “inuman” and bonding over sure good food. There are small round tables, long tables, or bahay-kubos, depending on the number of persons there are in a group. Their specialty will always be the famous Isaw (choices of chicken or pork) and Pancit  (whether Canton, Bihin, Miki etc.) with signature Lechon Kawali on top. They have short orders of other viands and rice toppings too.
Must try: Chicken Isaw and Pork Barbecue
Pancit Canton and Bihon
Perfect pair for the grilled Isaw and BBQ

Food are guaranteed hot, newly cooked once ordered. We prefer home delivery for a minimum fee of P300 (in Valley Golf Cainta area) because sometimes the waiting time is just too long. Best brought too for potlucks! For large groups (whether dine-in or take-out), they also have set menus that you get to pay for a cheaper “package” price.

Isaw Haus: Ortigas Ave Ext, Taytay, Rizal

Operating hours: Mondays-Sundays 12 noon to 12 midnight (to be confirmed)

Coffee Grounds

I am no coffee addict. But I love fruit juices, desserts, and tea… And internet, and a peaceful space for a chit chat with a friend, or to just be alone to read or study. Coffee Grounds is quite accessible as it is just along the Ortigas Ave. Extension highway. Aside from the drinks, they serve appetizers, rice meals, pastas, sandwiches and delicious cakes too.

Because I love red velvets…
and anything with matcha… Green Tea Cheesecake

DonnAppetit Garden Grill

So far, this one  is my newest discovery. A homey/garden themed restaurant in the middle of a residential area in Taytay. It reminds me of Chocolate de Batirol in Baguio because of its ambiance (the phone pics below won’t give justice to the place). Be surrounded with a fish pond, chirping birds, the greenery, along with a candle light table set-up.

We tried the Calamari, Baby Back Ribs, Pork Sinigang and Crispy Hito. All meant for sharing. Prices are very affordable and food serving is fast.
